she climbs up the ladder
with such determination
once on top
she balances her weight
she looks out at the crowd
with nervous anticipation

she carefully walks out onto the ledge
she closes her eyes
and take a deep breath
tries to calm all the butterflies

for a brief moment she is alone
high up in the sky
she feels on top of the world
as if she could fly

she starts the small bounce
in an instant she is twisting
and flipping through the air
the audience begins to applaud
splitting the water
first with her hands

the water washes over her
like a comforting blanket
enjoying the moment
for soon she'll be back
on dry land
